Fergus Scott Architects is an award-winning Sydney based architectural practice.
Our work is reflective of each client, and responds specifically to each site, and its own particular nature.
Our buildings are operable and engage with their surroundings-harnessing passive solar and thermal principles for efficiency and to further creative parameters.
Ensuring continuity and refinement from the schematic drawing to the as-built detail is central to our process, and it is informed by our appreciation of the value and nature of materials.
In addition to central and suburban Sydney, buildings have been completed throughout regional NSW. These have all been sited on land previously cleared for agriculture.
Awards include the 2003 and 2012 AIA Wilkinson Award for outstanding residential architecture.

NSW Registration No. 6086After graduating from The University of Sydney, Fergus worked for Peter Stutchbury between 1992 and 2000 on a wide range of projects. These included residential works, the Olympic Archery Pavilion, and several major faculty buildings at the University of Newcastle awarded for their innovative passive solar and thermal design.
At this time he also worked on desert buildings for Rick Joy Architects in Tucson, Arizona, and studied in detail the work of Frank Lloyd Wright and the Mayan and Aztec architecture of Central America.
Fergus established his practice in 2000 and it has since built a well-recognised and published portfolio with selected projects featured on the website.
From 2010 to 2017, Fergus tutored design in Professor Glenn Murcutt's regional studio at the University of New South Wales. He has been a guest tutor at the Architecture Foundation Australia and has lectured at the University of Newcastle and the National Gallery of Australia. He has written for Houses Magazine and was the NSW AIA awards residential jury chair in 2015.
Fergus has been a registered architect in NSW since 1996, and a member of the Australian Institute of Architects since 2001.

Caryn joined the practice in 2004 and has made a continuous and invaluable contribution to the work. Her breadth of experience has enabled her to assume the role of design, documentation, and project architect and she is highly respected by our clients and builders.
Caryn graduated from The University of Sydney in 2002 and is a registered architect. In addition, she has her own portfolio of high quality residential work.
Prior to joining the practice, she worked for Peter Stutchbury Architecture, Rick Joy Architects in Tucson (2003) and AT103 and TEN Arquitectos in Mexico City where she studied the work of Luis Barragan.
