SOUTHERN HOUSE
Ulladulla NSW | Budawang (Yuin)
2009
The “brow of the hill” is hard rust brown granite, and the house follows the contour here and sweeps through 270 degrees/ of coastal landscape. A sunlit courtyard and terrace are contained within the outline of the building. They combine with thick walls and alcoves to offer protection from the south for year round outside living.

“Wow–it’s so incredible to see your beautiful house standing proudly. A testament to the thoughtful design and placement on the land. And of course to all the [firefighting] heroes. True meaning of neighbours and community.”
“This house is a total experience combining landscape, the sea, the sky and a sense of community. …it is engaged in an ongoing conversation with its context–a conversation between equals. Emerging from the topography, its Corten cladding… and its tendency to de-materialise into the grand panorama of the coastline and ocean all serve to bind this house to its place.”
